Job Purpose

Buist Electric's Testing Department is looking for a Power Quality Engineer to add to our growing team. This position will involve working directly with customers and internal departments to perform power quality audits, electrical load studies, electrical system maintenance planning and execution, reviewing of reports, trouble shooting, and assisting with predictive maintenance, inspections, and planning.

Education, Experience, and Licensing Requirements

• Strong commitment to safety, ability to work safely as an independent worker
• 5 years industrial electrical experience
• Customer relation experience preferred
• Experience using hand held instruments and power quality meters, including interpretation of related data report generating
• Ability to identify electrical components withing panels / equipment and to safely install monitoring devices on live equipment as practical
• Experience and knowledge in controls and instrumentation
• Knowledge and ability to analyze and interpret complex electrical engineering systems at customer facilities
• Knowledge and ability to provide problem solving recommendations
• Knowledge and ability to provide recommendations and implement action plans to resolve power quality and reliability issues

Job Responsibilities

• Analyze utility bills, provide recommendations
• Perform power quality audits
• Perform load studies per IEEE recommendations
• Perform grounding audits and provide recommendations
• Analyze transformer laboratory results and field inspection data and provide recommendations
• Read and understand blueprints and schematics
• Investigate, analyze, and solve power quality related problems at customer locations
• Provide recommendations to customers that will mitigate utility generated and customer imposed power quality problems
• Stay apprised of revisions to National Electric Code (NEC), NFPA70B and other relevant building and safety regulations
• Complete and maintain job related documentation in a timely and professional manner (i.e. drawings, work orders and reports)
• Communicate effectively with Co-workers, Customers, Project Managers, and other trades
• Respond to customer service calls, troubleshoot, repair, and provide recommendations
• This position requires a highly detailed, self motivated individual with complex problem solving skills

Qualifications and Skills

• Working knowledge of programmable logic controllers (PLCs)
• Background in predictive and preventative maintenance
• Strong communications skills, ability to interact well with team members, other skilled trade professionals, designers, and customers
• Knowledge of National Electric Code, state, and local building codes
• Use of testing equipment and software
• Ability to work well individually and as part of a team
• Ability to read and comprehend engineered drawings and technical specifications
• Basic computer skills utilizing Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook, Excel, and Bluebeam
• Strong email etiquette
• Strong mechanical aptitude
• Organized and detail oriented with ability to manage their schedule, customer requests, and multiple projects

• Standing, walking, lifting, bending, climbing, repetitive motions
• Exposure to occasional outside weather conditions, heat and cold, noise, moving components, and equipment

Hours

• 45 hour work weeks
• Weekend, off shift, and Holiday work is anticipated
