Human Resources Intern

  • Location: Byron Center

General Description

Provide support to all employees in the areas of company benefits, internal and external personal and professional resources, and provide general operational support in the Safety and Human Resources departments. To be successful, this person must have a kind and compassionate mentality, be very detailed in information produced and in recordkeeping, and maintain a high level of confidentiality.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain employee personnel files and other related records
  • Safety Committee
    • Work with Safety Director to track injuries
  • Jobsite Safety Observation Reports
    • Record safety observation reports and maintain log. Distribute monthly.
  • Work with others to administer company wellness programs
    • Track wellness paperwork
    • Work with committee on monthly wellness challenges
  • Update documents as needed on the Buist app (a WordPress site)
  • Assist with processing reimbursements
  • Work with HR on new employee orientation details and on and off boarding processes
  • Company benefits
    • Prepare new hire packets
    • Update benefit information on the Buist app
  • Recordkeeping and filing
    • Employee electrical licenses
    • Apprenticeship School
    • Policy Manual acknowledgements
  • Assist with evaluation checklists

Qualifications

  • Clearly communicate information both orally and in writing
  • High attention to detail
  • Excellent people skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
  • Effectively support and display values that are consistent with the company culture
  • Minimum of high school diploma or GED, but working toward a college degree is preferred
  • Knowledge and understanding of workplace laws and regulations is a plus
  • Previous HRIS experience is a plus

Work Hours

  • Hours are typically Monday through Friday
  • Hours are typically 1st shift
  • 15-20 hours per week beginning May 13-August 16 (exact dates can be changed as needed with scheduling)

Work Conditions

  • Typically working in a temperature-controlled environment
  • Occasional job site visits
  • Work both at HQ (Byron Center location), Kalamazoo, and remote when needed
