
Audio Visual Lead Technician
General Description
Buist Audio Visual is seeking an experienced individual to join the team as a lead technician. The lead technician's responsibilities will consist of job site supervision, installations, alterations, and repairs of AV systems and infrastructure.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Accept and own responsibility for assigned projects from start to finish
- Responsible for the day-to-day supervision and operation of assigned projects and the field staff assigned to them
- Attend all regular and ad-hoc meetings as required
- Responsible for forecasting project labor needs, tracking daily progress, managing open items, managing project schedule, and communicating these to the Solution Architect /Project Manager
- Responsible for updating project management system and job tickets with job statuses, documentation updates, and any other information required
- Responsible for determining the appropriate tools and equipment for the job and arranging for the delivery of all materials, tools, and equipment
- Responsible for previous-day or morning-of-installation reconciliation of job parts to job drawings and documents to ensure all major parts and miscellaneous connectors/cables are accounted for prior to traveling to the job site
- Work in conjunction with the Solution Architect/Project Manager to ensure that job crew has been fully briefed on the installation plan prior to arrival at the job site
- Work directly with internal and external customers, general contractors, designers, and architects to ensure successful and on-time project outcomes
- Provide quality control for all installers and technicians working on the project
- Provide teaching, coaching, and mentoring to installers and technicians learning the trade
- Build, install, document, commission, maintain, and troubleshoot Audio Visual systems
- Install, terminate, document, troubleshoot, test, and certify low voltage cabling and connectors
- Ensure that manufacturer, AV industry, Bicsi processes, and best practices are adhered to throughout the installation process
- Load and perform basic modification of control, video, and audio code
- Work with Engineers on startup/commissioning to ensure systems are operating per design specification
- Provide client orientation/training on systems upon finalization of install as required
- Provide in a timely fashion any correspondence and forms required by the office, i.e., job tickets, infrastructure spreadsheets, daily reports, timecards, safety reports, accident reports, etc.
- Ensure that project time billing is accurate and entered in a timely manner for members of the assigned project team
- Ensure that excess job parts are documented and promptly returned to the warehouse and removed from the project parts allocation
- Maintain compliance with all OSHA and customer safety requirements and company policies, processes, and procedures
- Actively participate in personal and professional development, technical training, and maintain knowledge of current and new technologies that the company offers
- Maintain a clean job site, vehicle, and tools
- Participate in CPR, First Aid, and OSHA training
- Participate in training and maintain certification to operate various construction lifts
- Perform other related duties as required and assigned
Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience installing AV systems preferred
- Experience with properly and safely suspending and securing equipment such as speakers, lights, microphones, screens, etc. from the ceiling or truss structures
- Avixa CTS required, CTS-I preferred (or must be willing to attain CTS within 6 months of hire and CTS-I within 1 year of hire)
- Bicsi certifications preferred, (must be willing to attain BICSI certifications if requested)
- Experience with the implementation and troubleshooting of HDBaseT and AV over IP systems and infrastructure
- Must have in-depth knowledge of and ability to operate the following test equipment: Multimeters, Impedance Meters, Video and Audio Signal Generators, Low Voltage Cable Testers & Certifiers
- Must have excellent soldering skills
- Must be able to expertly terminate common audio, video, control and network cabling and connectors
- Must be adept with audio and video flow principals, link loss budgets, power distribution, cooling, and ventilation best practices and equipment layout and rack elevation principles
- Must be able to read, analyze, interpret, and maintain wiring diagrams, schematics, as-builts, floor plans, reflected ceiling plans, conduit callouts, elevations, and all other project documentation
- Ability to utilize and interpret basic command line network troubleshooting tools such as PING, IPCONFIG, TRACERT, etc.
- Basic understanding of IP addressing fundamentals
- Basic understanding of IP unicast and Multicast
- Must be responsible, self-motivated, self-starter, personable, well-organized, and maintain a clean, professional image
- Must possess superior customer service skills to deal with both internal and external customers
- Must be able to effectively handle stressful situations
Work Hours
- Hours are typically Monday through Friday
- Hours are typically 1st shift
- Typically 45 hours per week
Work Conditions
- Job requires working in all elements, depending on job location, time of year, heat, cold, rain, or snow
Physical Requirements
- Manual dexterity required to bend, stoop, squat, crawl, climb, kneel, balance, push, pull, and reach overhead
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 70 pounds
- Tolerate continual movement on your feet
- Climb ladders and scaffolding (all types)
- Operate power tools, various lifts, and office equipment
