Electrical BIM Modeler
General Description
Buist Electric is a large electrical contracting and engineering company providing a comprehensive list of electrical services to our customers. This position will involve working alongside Buist Electric’s electrical engineers and designers to develop drawings, models, and reports for various electrical systems within a building. The BIM Modeler is responsible for taking contract documents and producing construction drawings, CAD models, and documents. The BIM Modeler may need to work independently, or in conjunction with other engineers, designers, and/or field staff. The BIM Modeler may also be required to participate in the BIM Coordination process with a general contractor and/or other trades to complete a fully coordinated construction model. It is the job of the BIM Modeler to develop construction drawings which will meet all Buist standards for construction in the most efficient manner possible and produce all documentation needed to fulfill the contract requirements of the client and the needs of the construction team. This position is integral in identifying and solving construction challenges to ensure installation efficiency.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Using design modeling software; including REVIT® and AutoCAD, produce constructible 3D models of electrical system components, such as switchgear, cable tray, conduit, panel boards, control panels, and lighting with the understanding of how these systems are installed in the field
- Prepare detailed drawings of electrical designs and plans for buildings, according to specs, sketches, and rough drafts
- Develop detailed dimensioned installation drawings to improve the efficiency of field electricians
- Assist with tracking, reproduction, and distribution of all drawings, specifications, sketches, and revisions
- Routinely participate in coordination efforts with other design professionals and the build team to eliminate construction errors due to design flaws and clashes
- Provide support to the construction project managers on file management, requests for information, and design details
- Work closely with project managers and design team to meet project schedules
- Participate in project meetings with internal and external stakeholders
- Occasionally visit job sites to assess and assist with application of drawings
- Perform Surveying, when required, to document existing conditions
- Create Prefab Details and BOM's for Fabrication
Qualifications
- Minimum of 2+ years of working experience using REVIT® and AutoCAD
- Minimum of 3+ years working in the electrical construction industry laying out and/or installing electrical system components, such as switchgear, cable tray, conduit, panel boards, control panels, and lighting
- Must have experience interpreting electrical designs and laying out systems
- Must be capable of working in an unsupervised manner, self-motivated, and organized
- Must be able to work as part of a team, internally and with other trades, in a professional manner to produce a constructable design
- Must have a thorough understanding of basic computer programs (ie Outlook, Bluebeam, Microsoft Office) and the capability to learn more advanced programs

- Hours are typically Monday through Friday
- Hours are typically 1st shift
